Turku Energia and Kuopion Energia are investing in electric boilers. These boilers will help reduce the use of fossil fuels, promote the use of renewable energy, and support carbon neutrality goals in district heating production.
Finess Energy is supplying two electric boilers for projects at two different power plants. Both boilers are VAPEC (SULZER) water-tube boilers with a capacity of 60 MW. One boiler operates at a supply voltage of 20 kV and the other at 10 kV. One of the advantages of VAPEC (SULZER) boilers is the durability of the electrodes, which allows for very long maintenance intervals. Since the boiler is always filled with water without any air pockets and the electrodes are completely submerged, no small, intense current spikes form that would wear down the electrodes.
Electric boilers enable the flexible, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective production of district heating. Electric boilers allow for a rapid response to changes in electricity prices and enable participation in the balancing market to stabilize the power grid.
Deliveries include automation systems for the boiler and boiler circuit, circulation pumps, plate heat exchangers, and expansion systems, all of which are installed and tested ready for operation. Deliveries are scheduled for the turn of the year 2025–2026. Finess always offers the most optimal turnkey solutions and designs the best solution for the intended use, tailored specifically to the site.
