Haukivuoren Lämpö Oy is expanding its district heating production with a 1 MW electric boiler, which will provide flexibility, reliability, and readiness to meet future energy needs. The container-based solution supplied by Finess Energy supports the transition toward lower-emission and more modern heat production.
Haukivuoren Lämpö Oy expanded its district heating production by purchasing a 1 MW electric boiler from Finess Energy, which was delivered pre-installed in a shipping container to the heating plant’s grounds in the summer of 2025. The electric boiler operates optimally alongside the wood chip boiler, which is nearing the end of its technical service life, and brings flexibility to the system to meet the varying needs of the small district heating network located in the Mikkeli urban area.
“We wanted a modern, forward-looking solution that also supports non-combustion-based heat production using electricity generated from renewable energy. We can operate the electric boiler alongside the old wood chip boiler, and the unmanned plant can be controlled remotely,” explains Auli Haapiainen-Liikanen, CEO of Haukivuoren Lämpö Oy.
Finess Energy was responsible for the overall project delivery, supplying the 1 MW electric boiler system as a containerized solution. The turnkey package included the equipment container with all installations, the automation system, and the electrical and control cabinets. The system is also compatible with electricity balancing and reserve markets, supporting Haukivuoren Lämpö Oy’s objectives for energy efficiency and cost optimization.
The new electric boiler improves the security of heat supply, enables more flexible heat production, and supports the transition toward lower-emission and more modern district heating generation.
